Newsletter 7th June 2024
Dear Friends
I am currently reading a book subtitled “it’s okay to be not okay” by Patrick Regan, which is a Christian reflection on issues relating to mental health, by someone who has suffered with depression and anxiety, following on from a crippling physical condition while holding down a very demanding job as Chief Executive of a youth charity. One of the most interesting things he has to say is his suggestion that our understanding of mental health is decades if not centuries behind our understanding of physical health. We are effectively at times still treating people with leeches. No one would dream of telling someone with a broken leg to pull themselves together, but someone suffering with depression might well be given this kind of well-meaning advice.
And perhaps the most important point he makes is that it is often worse for Christians who feel guilty about being depressed, embarrassed that they don’t just have more faith. Patrick Regan’s is a powerful voice against such misconceived thinking. Yes, it’s true that Jesus says: “Do not fear, I have overcome the world,” but only after warning “in this world, you will have many troubles.” John 16.33
Car wash thanks
Thank you to everyone who brought their car to be washed or gave a donation for Cara’s ‘make a pound grow’ for Guides. She raised £130. She can also give back the initial pound as when we went to buy her sponge the lovely people at Halfords donated a sponge and car wash!
Treasurer for Pontesbury Festival
The planning committee for next year’s Pontesbury Festival are looking to recruit a
Treasurer to oversee income and expenditure. The Parish Council has kindly agreed to act
as banker, but the committee need someone to monitor incomings and outgoings at our end.
For further information, please contact Greg or email pontesburyfestival@mail.com

St George’s is looking to recruit a catering team who will occasionally be called into action to supply food for one-off events such as Harvest Supper or a Marriage Preparation Day. If you are potentially interested in joining the team, please contact a churchwarden or one of the clergy.
Music Required
Does anyone have any old music books which have songs which would have been sung in the second world war? Would you be able to lend them to David Young for use at an event in June? Please contact David on 537081. Thank you.

Jumble Trail
HTM will be doing our own stall at the Jumble Trail on 15th June, so need good quality items to sell. The sort of things that would be in a car boot sale. If you can either leave them in church (and let Sarah know you’ve left them) or give them to Sarah on Sunday.
Archdeacon’s Visitation

Minsterley Show
The Minsterley Show is back again on the 17th of August, and we need people to start making delicious cakes! If you think you can bake some cakes and pop them in the freezer then please do start as your support is very much appreciated! This is a big fundraiser for Holy Trinity and our stall is very much appreciated by the show attendees due to our reasonable prices – we can keep our prices down due to the fact that cakes and sandwiches are donated. Keep the date in your diary and on your marks, get, set, bake!
The show ground is situated 5 miles Southwest of Shrewsbury on the B4386, Shrewsbury to Westbury Road.
SatNav users should input SY5 8PW as the postcode.
