Newsletter 19th April 2024

Dear Friends

While we were on holiday last week, we called in at a busy restaurant/pub in the hope of an evening meal after a long day visiting Anglesey. Although there were a couple of empty tables in the bar, we were told by a charming hostess that we would have to wait 25 minutes for a table, and would we like to have a drink in the bar while we waited. We decided to wait. By the time we had been served drinks the tables in the bar had been taken, so we were confined to high stools, which for Fran on crutches was not ideal, so eventually we grabbed a table that had a reserved sign on it, but with a time that meant that our 25 minutes should have expired by the time the reservation was taken up. (I hope you’re still following me!) As the hostess passed, Fran asked if it was all right for us to be sitting here. The hostess directed us to another table in the bar that had just become vacant. And there we waited. After 45 minutes, it struck me that other people who were seated in the bar were being served food, and I therefore asked the barman if it would be all right for us to order food for this table. He looked at me as if to say, “what a stupid question” and said “of course.” After we had placed our order, it further occurred to me that the table we were sat at was indeed the table that we had been waiting for all along!

In short, sometimes in life, we are waiting for God to open a door for us or show us a new path, when actually all along we have been exactly where He wants us, and we just need to realise this and get on with whatever He has called us to.

Spring Harvest

Those of us who attended Spring Harvest at the beginning of the month had a wonderful time with the exception of Claire (see last week’s newsletter). If you think you might be interested in attending next year, please speak to Greg or Fran Brealey.

Snailbeach Coffee Morning

Many thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who staffed the Snailbeach Coffee morning on 6th April. A magnificent £1000 was raised for St Luke’s funds.

Bernard Rodenhurst

The funeral of Bernard Rodenhurst will take place at St Mary’s Habberley on Tues 30th at 12 noon.

April 28th

Please note that the service pattern on Sunday April 28th will be different in Minsterley and Pontesbury. The 10.30 service at St George’s will celebrate St George’s Day, with the uniformed groups in attendance, and will not be eucharistic. There will therefore a short said communion service at 12 noon. This will be followed by the APCM. People are welcome to attend any combination of these three events. In Minsterley that day, we will launch Tea-Time church at 4 p.m. at Minsterley Parish Hall, with no service in the morning.

Praise Evening

Our latest Group Praise Evening will take place at Holy Trinity Minsterley on Tues 7th May at 7 p.m. All welcome.

Group Social

St George’s will be hosting a bring and share supper on Saturday May 4th at 7 p.m. This is for the whole Pontesbury and Stiperstones family, designed to help us to get to know each other better, rather than a fundraising exercize.

Bed & Sofa

A good condition double bed and sofa are available for free to anyone willing to collect. Contact Greg if you know anyone who would be interested.

Quiz

Shrewsbury Youth for Christ and Shrewsbury Street Pastors are hosting a quiz at Christ Church, Bayston Hill on Friday May 10th at 7 p.m. Please see attached poster for further details.
