Many of you will remember that Margaret Jones introduced us to Tenebrae for Good Friday evening. Here is an adapted version which you might use if you have seven tea lights or candles.

TENEBRAE

We Gather at the Cross

Eternal God,

In the cross of Jesus we see the cost of our sin and the depth of your love:

In humble hope and fear we place at his feet all that we have and all that we are,

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Jesus is proclaimed the Light of the World

Reading One – John 1:6-9

During which the candles are lit.

Hymn 195 – From heaven you came, helpless babe.

THE SHADOW OF PREDICTION

Reading Two – John 13:31-38

After which, one candle is extinguished.

O Lord, hear my prayer (x2)

When I call, answer me

O Lord, hear my prayer (x2)

Come and listen to me.

THE SHADOW OF THE AGONY OF THE SPIRIT.

Reading Three – Mark 14:32-42

Another candle is extinguished.
