Newsletter 9th June 2023

Dear all

We had our “First Sunday of the month informal service” (note to self – get a better title) at
St George’s Sunday just past, which is always an interesting experience. Focusing on the Trinity we split the service into different parts in order to give the congregation the choice over which “”activity” they would prefer to do – there was some poetry to read and think about, drawing symbols of the Trinity based on some Celtic knotwork and finally a Bible study/talk where we looked at how the Trinity is portrayed in the New Testament with the starting point being:

1.    There is only one God.

2.    The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is each God.

3.    The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are not the same

All interesting stuff I am sure you can imagine! Sometimes we have to enjoy the mystery of God, and resist the temptation to try and fit Him into a box of our design in order to feel comfortable with Him. All we end up with then is a God of our own reflection and making and who wants that?
The 1st Sunday of the month Service is still a work in progress and I am very open to feedback so if there is something you want more (or less!) of then do let me know!

Richard

Spring Harvest

We are planning a further trip to Spring Harvest next year, 1-5 April 2024. If you would like to know more about what a trip to Spring Harvest entails, please speak to someone who attended. To reserve a place, please contact Greg and if you would like a place on a coach Susan Lockwood at susanlockwood345@btinternet.com Booking lines open on 14th June and it is expected to sell out very quickly.

Learning new songs

There have been many wonderful new worship songs written over the last decade or so. We tend not to sing them in our churches because people don’t already know them. Therefore, St George’s will be hosting a new songs workshop on Weds June 14th at 7 p.m. We are happy to take requests in advance, the primary stipulation being that the song/hymn must have been written this century.

Mary Webb School

Mary Webb School has been subject to an Ofsted inspection this week. Please pray for the staff and students at this time.

Richard’s Ordination

Richard will be ordained priest at Hereford Cathedral on Saturday 1st July at 10 a.m. (this is the correct time). If you are not able to attend the ordination (everyone is welcome), you are warmly invited to The Deanery that evening at 6 p.m. for a BBQ to celebrate this milestone. Anyone is welcome to come along, but please put your name on a church signup sheet or contact Greg & Fran so that we can cater accordingly.
