Newsletter 4th August 2023

Dear Friends
Shrewsbury Flower Show is not far off and I was thinking about an experience I had a few years ago. I bumped into one of the undertakers who I had been working regularly with and I stopped to chat with him. He didn’t recognise me – jeans, t-shirt and no dog collar. He was also dressed casually and I almost walked past him.

It reminded me of Mary meeting Jesus by his tomb and not knowing who he was. She thought he was the gardener. I can understand why she didn’t recognise him – she had gone to anoint our Lord’s body; she was expecting to see a body in the tomb; not a man standing by her.

We encounter our Lord Jesus in many ways – perhaps in prayer; in music; in visions or doing our day to day business. We may not always recognise him, like Mary, but he’s with us and we just need to remember that.

And why share this with you today? It’s a reminder of the resurrection and that as John Pritchard says, we are an Easter people. Not only for Easter Sunday but for every day.

The resurrection tells us that Jesus is alive and that gives me the greatest joy and I hope for you too.

Blessings

Pam

Benefice Choir

We are keen to establish a benefice choir to lead worship at Group Services and on other occasions. Please speak to Barbara Norsworthy at barbnors65@aol.com to find out more.

Foodbank

A couple of the volunteers at Minsterley Foodbank have stood down in recent weeks and it would help if we were able to replace them. Volunteers would be asked to serve on a rota which would mean attending approximately every 3 weeks. Full training will be provided. Anyone interested should speak to Mike Kirk or Greg. There is also a dearth in food being donated while the need ever increases. Please consider whether you can purchase an extra couple of items in your weekly shop.

Group Services

The next Group Service will take place on Sunday Aug 27th at Holy Trinity, Minsterley.

Blackout Curtain

Holy Trinity Minsterley needs some blackout material to protect the two encased Maidens’ Garlands. If anyone has any to donate, please contact one of the churchwardens, Susan, or Sarah.

Holidays

Please note that Greg & Fran are on holiday from 31st July to 13th August; and Richard, Claire, and family 15th to 28th August. Revd Fran Brealey is around throughout the summer.
