From the Dragons’ Den
In early days, in a fit of enthusiasm, we constructed a Little Dragon bus – out of cardboard – and this bus, having been ‘done up’ a couple of times in the passing years (almost 16), is the promoter of one of the favourite songs – The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round! This, and Baa, Baa, Black Sheep are Top of the Pops as far as our Little Dragon members are concerned; with the exception of ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’, which remains the very, very, very favourite, and is our finale song each week.
I was thinking about favourite songs from my own childhood. I perhaps give away a little of my timeline when I say that one of my favourites was, ‘Run Rabbit, Run rabbit, Run, Run , Run’; another being ‘There’ll Be Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover!’ Songs remembered from early days at school were ‘O Worship the King’, which was sung in school Assembly every Monday morning and I remember, at the age of 10, being in the recorder band which accompanied this. Another favourite of the time was, ‘The King of Love My Shepherd is, Whose Goodness Faileth Never’, also played by our small recorder band. Happy memories.
Perhaps our Little Dragons will be able to recall in 60 – 70 – 80 years, the joy they found in singing together. I hope so.
From Val and from we three (who also love singing):
George, Uncle Sam and Idris.
