From the Dragons’ Den

Last week at Little Dragons one of our two year old boys spent much time in the red plastic car mastering the skill of reversing. He has obviously watched parents and/or grandparents carrying out the same task in real life and his skill at manoeuvring the vehicle was something to behold.

It was fascinating to observe his eye and head movements prior to his turning the steering wheel and further watching the balanced movements as he considered how far to turn the wheel either left-hand down or right-hand down.  He could put a few adults to shame without a doubt!

Other scenes that delighted the eye on this particular day were: the tackling of the dolly ironing pile – of special interest here to see that both boys and girls are proficient at turning, folding and pressing with one of our brightly-coloured plastic irons; the acquisition of cooking skills as boiled eggs and toast were prepared, pizza was baked and numerous cups of tea were poured.

When one’s own children are young it is easy to miss developing skills as we are often too busy to ‘stand and stare’. This last ‘activity’ is one of the bonuses of being a Senior Dragon – one can take the time to enjoy and witness the development of thought processes, physical dexterity of hand and eye co-ordination as our charges learn to use, and share, equipment.

We are so lucky!                                              Val Butterworth
