Stained Glass

St George’s has many fine stained glass windows, only a few in the Nave of the church, but most in the older Chancel area.

Nave


South Aisle Memorial Chapel
Double stained glass window, half depth, the two panels together showing the raising of Jairus' daughter.
Dedication across both windows:
“To the glory of God in memory of Mary Edythe Margorie Jameson, died May 10th 1928 aged 31. This window given by passengers on the RMS Franconia R.I.P.”
N.B. She died in Buenos Aires whilst nursing on the RMS Franconia.

An unidentified picture with the same dedication across both windows:

North Aisle, Lady Chapel North Wall
Pair of full length stained glass windows, known as the 'Eubank' window, after a former Rector
Having this inscribed in the bottom right corner:

Orate pro anima Ricardi Eubank presbyteri rectoris huius ecclesiae 1922-1931 cuius animae propicietur Deus
(Pray for the soul of Richard Eubank, priest, rector of this church 1922-1931, on whose soul may God have mercy.)

Window depicting the baptism of Jesus with inscription

Ad Dei aloriam et in memoriam Gulielme Harrison primae portionis rectoris magistri arteum Oroniensis qui ad Dominum rujus propter nomen per multos annos in hac parochia laboravit an dom MCMI pacifice migravit, filius sorores et amici hanc fenestram posverunt.

Born AD 1813. Died 1881 One of Australia’s pioneers.

To the glory of God and in loving memory of Heighway Jones of Earlsdale in this parish, born 9th August 1818, died 6th May 1876.
Also of Mary, wife of the above, born 2nd March 1811, died 11th September 1890.

In the left hand panel is marked Jones Wilis London 1905.

Was rededicated by Bishop Percival under Edward VII AD
1904.
